Jiujiang District has added another piece to its push to blend top-tier IP, digital industry and immersive cultural tourism. On August 19, Wuhu Super Immersive Theater opened just outside Fantawild Oriental Heritage.

The super immersive theater is not a conventional cinema, nor is it simply watching through a mixed reality (MR) headset. Built on film and television IPs and cultural stories, it combines physical sets, large-space positioning, MR headsets, spatial audio, motion platforms and environmental effects including wind, mist and heat — transforming visitors from passive viewers into active participants who move, explore and interact in real space as the story unfolds.

As Anhui's first super immersive theater, the Wuhu venue features three experiences: The Great Wall immersive theater, Strange Tales of the Tang Dynasty: Journey West — a China-chic immersive theater, and MRCS mixed-reality shooting. Together they fuse cultural IP, digital technology and physical settings, offering visitors an immersive cultural tourism experience that takes them from "watching a story" to "entering a story."

The three experiences cover historical culture, China-chic storytelling and competitive gaming, forming a complementary matrix of immersive content.

In The Great Wall experience, visitors play the role of a Ming Dynasty official, traveling from Jiayuguan Pass back to the capital across treacherous desert routes. VR redirection and wireless streaming technology create the sensation of walking across thousands of square kilometers within a limited physical space — allowing them to experience the grandeur of the Great Wall and the weight of history firsthand.

Strange Tales of the Tang Dynasty: Journey West is based on a hit iQIYI IP, using live performance plus fully immersive VR to transport visitors back to the Tang Dynasty for a mystery-solving adventure.

MRCS, a high-fidelity shooting combat game making its national debut, overlays a digital battlefield onto real space. Participants can move freely, form teams and complete missions with real-time haptic feedback, making it ideal for team building, parent-child interaction and corporate events.

The launch of the super immersive theater marks another major breakthrough for Jiujiang District in digital cultural creativity and the deep integration of cultural tourism with technology. In recent years, the district has positioned itself as the core area of "Happy Wuhu," ramping up efforts to attract projects in new business formats such as immersive experiences and the first-launch economy.

Recent projects include Yuxing Technology's dome theater and large-space VR facility, YUEWEN's first offline immersive project for Battle Through the Heavens (launched in June), and Wuhu's first artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) film and television center and OPC community project (operational since August). Since the start of 2026, the district has signed 12 new projects with total investment approaching 1 billion yuan.

Moving forward, Jiujiang District will continue to deepen the integration of culture and technology, strengthen key sectors including gaming and e-sports, film and animation, smart cultural tourism and creative design, and build itself into a provincial leader in digital cultural innovation and a benchmark for cultural-tourism integration in the Yangtze River Delta.
