Wuhu Library set to move in October

New progress has been made in the construction of the new sites for Wuhu Library and Wuhu Cultural Center in Luolan Town, in the east of the city. Interior work on floors B1, B2 and F6, which will house the two institutions, has been completed. The installation and testing of digital equipment is also nearing completion. What remains is the bidding and procurement of furniture, including bookcases, desks and chairs, which is expected to take two months. The new library site is expected to receive its first batch of books in October this year.

During a recent visit, the reporter found that all construction barriers around B1 and B2 had been removed. The two buildings are linked by a skybridge and look clean and tidy. Inside, the new decor is striking — walls, floors and ceilings feature a simple yet elegant design. Central air conditioning, power and communications systems, water supply and fire protection systems have all been installed.

The digital infrastructure is also in place. Each floor is equipped with self-service card dispensers and book return machines, book search terminals and self-service book sterilizers. Video surveillance and facial recognition systems have also been installed. A large electronic screen has been set up at the entrance on the first floor of B1. The lecture hall on the fourth floor is also fitted with a large screen.

Notably, intelligent robots will be introduced for book inventory and shelf organization after the new library opens. Two robots have been purchased and will soon be tested.

The head of Wuhu Library said, "We aim to complete the entire process from furniture bidding to on-site delivery within two months, and will strive to start the library relocation in October."

Construction of the new sites began in late October 2025 and has attracted widespread public attention. B1 and B2, which will house the new library, have a total floor area of about 14,100 square meters, while F6, which will house the new cultural center, has a floor area of around 5,500 square meters. As the project nears completion, a procurement notice for property management services of Wuhu Library has been issued. The tendering for property management services of Wuhu Cultural Center has also been completed.

The relocation of the two institutions will further improve the layout of public cultural facilities in the eastern part of the city, better meet residents' cultural needs and help enhance the quality of urban life.
