Located on the west bank of the Qingyijiang River in Wanzhi District, founded during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty, it thrived due to water transport. It is a typical Jiangnan water town. The old streets feature houses built along the embankment, with winding cobblestone pathways flanked by shops whose upturned eaves face each other. Unlike over-commercialized ancient towns, Xihé has preserved its authentic way of life and introduced intangible cultural heritage experiences such as portraits of New Fourth Army figures and sugar painting, becoming a model of an "artistic ancient town".
