Written Remarks by H.E. Wang Yi Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee And Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China at the International Symposium on the Implementation of the Outcome of the U.N. Summit of the Future
Distinguished Guests,
Friends,
Welcome to Beijing for the international symposium themed “Strengthen the Role of the United Nations and Promote Multilateralism” hosted by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
At the U.N. Summit of the Future successfully convened in September 2024, countries committed themselves in the outcome document to taking action on transforming global governance in various areas. This reflects the common aspiration of the international community for supporting and promoting multilateralism, strengthening the role of the U.N. and improving global governance. I believe this symposium will further boost the efforts to deliver on the summit outcome and forge new consensus on transforming and improving global governance.
In today’s world, changes unseen in a century are accelerating, geopolitical conflicts continue unabated, various challenges keep emerging, and factors of instability and uncertainty are clearly on the rise. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and the founding of the United Nations, a key moment in the history of humanity. The international community hopes to see all countries work in solidarity and coordination to uphold what is right, steer the direction of our era, defend fairness and justice, safeguard world peace and stability, and promote global development and prosperity.
President Xi Jinping put forward the vision of building a community with a shared future for mankind and the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative and Global Civilization Initiative. These are China’s proposals to jointly tackle global challenges and build a better world, and they have won the recognition and support of more and more countries. As a founding member of the United Nations and a permanent member of the Security Council, China will continue to work with all sides to practice true multilateralism, safeguard the central role of the U.N., and promote global governance that is based on extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit. Together, we will bring stability to a changing and turbulent world, inject positive energy in building a more just and equitable global governance system, work toward the vision of a community with a shared future for mankind, and embrace an even brighter future.
I wish this symposium a full success.
