Introduction to Ulyanovsk, Russia

Ulyanovsk, the hometown of the great revolutionary pioneer Lenin,is the capital of Ulyanovsk Region of the Russian Federation. Located in the European part of Russia along the Volga River, Ulyanovsk is to southeast of Moscow.  Founded in 1648, it consists of four administrative regions with an area of 316.9 square kilometers  and a population of 620,000.

Automobile manufacturing and metal processing industries lays the economic foundation for Ulyanovsk. In particular, machinery manufacturing industry plays an important part in the industrial structure with the aircraft and the automobile industries standing at the core. For example, “UAZ” (standing for Ulyanovsky Avtomobilny Zavod), is an established automobile brand. Besides, the city is also well known for engines, lathes, chemical equipment, agricultural machinery and electronic products. What’s more, light industry plays an essential role in its economy with electronics, energy, retail and capital-intensive production well developed. Banking industry, service industry, tourism and food manufacturing also have certain advantages. Tourism in particular, thanks to the convenient transportation and abundant natural and human resources, has huge potential in development, including sports tourism, water tourism, racing clubs, national parks and nature reserves.

The city of Wuhu and Ulyanovsk signed to become sister cities on November 6, 2018.
