To win the Blue Sky Protection Campaign, Wuhu Municipality has adopted multiple measures to facilitate low nitrogen transformation of gas-fired boils. A thorough survey has been made on both the industrial and life service boilers in every part of the city, and a transformation account has been set up accordingly.

In order to carry out the transformation smoothly, the city held training sessions for relevant enterprises and invited experts from Ecological Environment and Market Regulation Departments to interpret policies and technical methods for boiler transformation. The municipal government also provides on-spot technical consulting services to enterprises.

In addition, Wuhu has also introduced incentive policies to encourage boiler users to conduct the reform. The city will implement the transformation step by step and plan to finish over half of the work by the end of 2019 and the rest by 2020.

The city sets the criterion that the concentration of nitrogen oxides after transformation should not be higher than 50mg/m3. Enterprises are encouraged to reduce emission of the boilers to 30mg/m3 or even less after reform. Key enterprises are required to install automatic monitoring facilities for air pollution sources and to network with the Ecological Environment Department.

It is reported that the emission of nitrogen oxides in China is relatively high at present. Boilers of various purposes dotted in every region are major source of nitrogen oxides. According to statistics, most of the nitrogen oxides generated in the combustion process of gas-fired boilers are discharged untreated, and the emission concentration is about 120-150mg/m³. Low nitrogen transformation can effectively reduce the nitrogen oxide emission.
